Most interviewed about how they would vote said that the candidate's identity - including their gender or race - weighed less in Salem women's decision-making than the candidate's policies.

Most adventure movies are marketed toward men. While women may enjoy them just as much, it is not often that an adventure story is geared toward them. "Nim's Island" is a refreshing change of pace from the stereotypical film in the genre.

Based on Wendy Orr's novel of the same name, the film tells the story of a young girl, Nim (played by Oscar nominee Abigail Breslin), and her father living on a private island in the South Pacific.

As the Salem campus is finally starting to feel the warm spring weather, it is important to dress appropriately, not only to combat the heat but to enjoy it as well. I don't like to wear just shorts and tank tops every day. I like to mix it up by wearing a cute spring dress occasionally

Spring and summer are the best times to wear dresses.

I love my Nalgene bottle. This hard plastic and nearly unbreakable polycarbonate container has proved invaluable in my collegiate lifestyle and is a good alternative to other environmentally unfriendly Styrofoam options. However, upon hearing that Nalgene bottles may be slowly leaching poisonous chemicals into my beverages, I may have to reconsider my choice.

As the numbers of ginseng-enhanced products increase and American ginseng populations are rapidly depleted, Salem faculty and students have initiated an undergraduate research team in the hopes of finding an alternative method of collecting ginseng.

The medicinally-active components of ginseng, a class of compounds known as ginsenosides, are normally extracted from the root of the ginseng plant.

Gun control is a topic that has been kept under the radar this presidential election season. The reason? The three remaining candidates just aren't strong supporters of protecting Americans' right to bear arms.

Despite his status as the Republican presidential candidate, John McCain is not the epitome of where the party stands on the Second Amendment.

This summer, the world is invited to attend the Olympic Games in Beijing. Hosting the Games is a great honor for the nation of China, but is it truly deserved? Since the lighting of the Olympic torch, international freedom fighters have stepped up their efforts to end China's fifty-year reign of terror in Tibet.

Females are often referred to as the gentler sex. Supposedly, on their pedestals of virtue, females are free from the lower motivations our gender counterparts just can't resist.

Even with statistics and personal accounts disproving the widespread belief, violence and aggression still remain proscribed problems of the male gender while women serve as the morally superior pillars of society.

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." This phrase is probably one of Gandhi's most widely recognized quotes.

However, despite its devolution into something of a quaint platitude, as the year draws to its close and the staff of The Salemite brings you this year's last issue, I can feel Gandhi's words begin to resonate on campus and on The Salemite.

Most Americans have acclimated to security screenings in public places. Stripping down to your socks at the airport is second nature. But when did you last arrive at an on-campus event that required your name, address, telephone number, and an optional political endorsement in the name of security? It happened to me last week.
